Safety Internship Position

Curran has created an internship position for a well-qualified, highly-motivated, and dynamic future Safety Professional. This position will report to and work closely with the Safety Manager and will provide multiple opportunities for individual growth and mutual benefit, such as:

• Review and revision of safety manuals and policies

• Development and presentation of dynamic safety training

• Receive training as necessary in specific safety topics, such as temporary traffic control, excavation competent person, confined space entry, incident investigation, etc.

• Conducting regular job site visits, audits, behavioral, and ergonomic assessments

• Developing detailed job safety analyses

• Collection and analysis of sound level measurement data

• Working with internal personnel and external partners in the collection and analysis of industrial hygiene data

Hours, Location, Compensation, Reporting

This position will report to Curran’s main office in Crystal Lake, Illinois and/or the asphalt plant location in DeKalb, IL. It will require travel by automobile to the job site and plant locations in the McHenry, Kane, Winnebago, and DeKalb county areas in IL as well as potential travel to Texas. The work hours will generally be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. However, early morning meetings and job site visits, as well as visits to night work projects, will periodically be necessary. The position will average approximately 40 hours per week. Compensation for this position will be $15.00-$18.00 per hour. Housing assistance may be available for candidates without area housing. This position will commence on June 1st, 2020 and will conclude on August 21st, 2020 – with modifications available to accommodate university schedules as necessary.


Civil Project Manager

Job Description:

Civil Project Manager

 

Primary Function:

Civil project managers control the time, cost and quality of heavy highway or site work construction projects. They plan and coordinate all aspects of the construction process, including hiring subcontractors and working with engineers, owners, and vendors. A single manager might oversee an entire construction project or multiple managers might oversee specific aspects of a larger project.

 

Typical Duties:

  • Assist estimator with bid scrubbing process for import into Vista accounting system
  • Review subcontracts for accuracy before submittal to subcontractors for executing
  • Create, submit and maintain the project schedule in Microsoft Office or Primavera P6
  • Owner and subcontractor official correspondence and related documentation (RFI’s, Submittals, transmittals, letters, etc.)
  • Work with the owner to create AIA payment form and billing work items on private projects
  • Continual monitoring of project job costs including:
    • Daily review and approval of cost codes and crew time on foremen timesheets
    • Daily, weekly and monthly review of job costs against budget and making necessary field changes to improve project profitability
    • Perform month-end cost to complete work in process (WIP) analysis
  • Create and submit extra work AUP or lump sum proposals
  • Create and update 2-week look-ahead schedules if required
  • Surveyor and sub-contractor scheduling and coordination
  • Monitor open receivables to ensure accurate and timely payment from the owner for work performed
  • Monitor DBE goal and ensure it is met
  • Final quantity calculations and agreement with the owner and all sub-contractors
  • Submit time extension requests as needed
  • Perform final paperwork and job closeout with contract administrator

 

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Construction Management (BS in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering preferred)
  • Prior construction management experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
  • Strong Math Aptitude
  • Detailed orientated
  • Microsoft Project and Office proficiency is a plus
  • Intimate knowledge of IDOT & Tollway specifications is a plus

 


Civil Excavation Foreman

Job Description:

Primary Function:

Civil Excavation Foremen direct the activities of the Curran crews on a single project.  Work with their Civil Site Superintendent to ensure adequate resources are on site to achieve maximum job profitability while adhering to the Curran safety culture.

 

Typical Duties:

  • Reports to Civil Site Superintendent
  • Manage self-perform crews on site to make sure they are executing their daily activities per the Site Superintendent’s direction
  • Communicate with Site Superintendent if resources need to be changed to achieve daily goals
  • Complete daily electronic time sheets and submit for Site Superintendent approval

 

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Local laborers’ or operators’ union membership required
  • Prior foreman experience required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong math aptitude
  • Knowledge of heavy highway construction equipment a plus

GPS Manager

Job Description:

Mid-sized general contractor looking to add a heavy highway/site work GPS Manager to our team in Crystal Lake.  This position will require a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and organizational skills.  Candidate must be able to effectively communicate with the team, clients, engineering companies, and vendors and be able to work flexible hours.  Responsibilities include:  Create all required project files for the GPS Technicians and Equipment, Assist project managers and estimators with required quantity takeoff’s and final quantity measurements using Agtek, Planswift and GPS surveying data, Updating all GPS and Estimating software and equipment, and coordinate GPS Technicians by prioritizing tasks.  Other responsibilities include conducting site visits, performing field measurements and GPS surface modeling.  Experience with Agtek, Topcon equipment, and field surveying is preferred.

 


Civil GPS Technician

Job Description:

Primary Function:

Civil GPS Technicians are specialized, skilled laborers that work on projects to help support the earthwork activities.  They perform laborer activities as well as survey layout for various work items.

 

Typical Duties:

  • Reports to Civil Site Superintendent
  • Performs topography survey shots with Topcon GPS equipment for earthwork quantity calculations
  • Performs survey layout with Topcon GPS equipment for various work items (i.e. – ditch lines, silt fence, light poles, etc.)
  • Maintain and trouble shoot issues with GPS equipment on bulldozers, base stations and rovers
  • Communicate with Site Superintendent if problems with the plans or layout points are found
  • Various laboring activities as required

  • Local laborers’ union membership required
  • Prior GPS technician experience preferred
  • Technical knowledge of GPS Topcon equipment a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
