Project Barb

Curran Contracting partnered with Krusinski Construction on this 70 acre site development project in DeKalb, Illinois. Curran excavated 600,000 CY of earth in preparation for a new building and parking lot. More than 65,000 tons of binder and surface was laid by Curran’s paving division to complete the employee parking lot, truck and dock loading areas.

DeKalb Data Center at the NEW ChicagoWest Business Center

Curran Contracting acted as the Prime Site Contractor for the new DeKalb Data Center for Mortenson Construction. This 907,000 square foot facility will be occupying 505 acres of CWBC’s, 1,000-acre park in DeKalb, Illinois. Curran moved more than 1,000,000 CY of dirt over 300 acres including excavation, structural excavation and backfill. Amazon Distribution Center

Krusinski Construction contracted the Curran team to repurpose existing buildings and hardscape in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The scope of work included removing the aging HMA and concrete to prepare for infrastructure improvements on this 15 acre site. The design included two bio-retention ponds, “rain gardens”, and permeable pavers which were installed to facilitate storm water filtration. Curran Contracting self-performed all excavation and managed the site subcontractors including water, sewer and landscaping.

Project Sawgrass

Curran Contracting  partnered with Clayco on this site development project in Cherry Valley, Illinois. Curran self-performed the excavation of 500,000 CYD of topsoil and clay, 75,000 CY of rock excavation, 55,000 tons of stone placement and 25,000 tons of asphalt paving to prepare for a future 141,000 SF distribution facility while managing the subcontractors performing the underground utilities and soil stabilization.

The Cubes at Country Club Hills

Partnering with Clayco Construction, Curran Contracting was awarded the mass grading scope of work to make way for a 1,200,000 SF warehouse in Country Club Hills, Illinois. Over 400,000 CYD was moved, as well as tree removal and the demolition of four existing structures on the property.

Norton Lakes

Shodeen Construction awarded Curran Contracting this mass grading project which includes over 150,000 CY of excavation, and paving for a 20 acre site in Campton Hills, Illinois. The land is being developed for a future single family home community called Norton Lakes. Upon completion, Curran Contracting will have installed 6,000 ft of curbs, 5,300 TN of aggregate base and laid 1,200TN of binder to complete the roads.

DeKalb Landfill

Waste Management awarded Curran Contracting the excavation of a new garbage cell 3A at the DeKalb Landfill. This project included berm construction, cell liner placement and leachate stone placement as part of the cell construction. The overall excavation quantity includes 600,000 CYD of earthwork. The final phase will include the completion of the West Final Upper Cover area.

Peace and Gurler Road Roundabout off of I-88

Curran  was contracted to build a new roundabout in the City of DeKalb, Illinois at the intersection of Peace and Gurler Road for Krusinski Construction Company. This now leads into the new entrance for the ChicagoWest Business Center. Improvements also included more than one mile of road widening and resurfacing on Gurler Road.

Ferrara Candy Distribution and Pack Center

Curran Contracting was awarded the paving contract for the new parking lot for the Ferrara Candy Center in DeKalb, Illinois. The scope of work included over 80,000K tons of stone and 20,000K tons of binder laid. Curran worked both days and nights to ensure the project stayed on time and on budget for Krusinski Construction.

Amazon Distribution Center

Curran Contracting was honored to partner with FCL Builders, LLC on this project in Kenosha, Wisconsin to retrofit an existing industrial facility to support the growing distribution needs for Amazon. The client had high expectations for completion, and Curran was able to seamlessly deliver.

Spring Creek Development

Spring Creek Development Group awarded Curran Contracting the mass grading scope of work for a proposed development in Loves Park, Illinois. The project consisted of approximately 60,000 CY of topsoil stripping, 80,000 CY of excavation and roughly 70,000 CY of structural import. This work was phase one of three that we completed to prepare for future building and infrastructure work.

Willow Creek Church

Occasionally, Curran is awarded a project with a higher purpose. The new Huntley Willow Creek Church had their ground-breaking ceremony and Curran was there moving earth to make it happen!

Partnering with Altounian Construction our scope of work included topsoil stripping operations, site excavation, building foundation excavation, parking lot installation, and widening Huntley road to give churchgoers a safe entry point.

Rakow Road Reconstruction

Team Curran reconstructed three miles of a two-lane road into a 5-7 lane highway. The job included pavement removal, earth excavation, PCC concrete base installation, asphalt resurfacing and installation of retaining walls and underground utilities in Crystal Lake, Illinois near our corporate headquarters.

Artis Senior Living

Carlson Construction awarded Curran the earthwork contract for the Artis Senior Living project in Bartlett, Illinois.  Our scope of work included topsoil excavation, re-spread, mass site excavation with a detention pond structural excavation and backfill for the new facility.

Mercy Hospital

Curran was pleased to be awarded the structural excavation contract by Mortenson Company for the Mercy Hospital Project in Rockford, Illinois. The first phase of the project had our crews working throughout the winter and we were awarded a second phase of work the following year to include site grading, stone base, and asphalt paving of the parking lots and roadways. The work included more than 73,000 SY of asphalt paving, 60,000 Tons of stone base, and 150,000 CY of excavation.

9300 King

Clarius Partners partnered with Pepper Construction to demolish, remediate and build a new 100,000 SF industrial facility in Franklin Park, Illinois.  The construction professionals at Pepper called upon Curran to transform the site and prepare for them to build anew. The site was safely remediated using engineered barriers; Curran performed all the site grading, footing undercuts and backfill, contained the bad soils, and brought in stone for the building pad.  To help achieve LEED Silver status, we recycled the crushed concrete from the demolished building.

Luckey Ranch

The Lucky Ranch project consisted of excavating approximately 700,000 CY of dirt from Site A and relocating it to Site B for phase two of the project. With the dirt relocated to Site B, we cut and graded the future roadway for the neighborhood, as well as graded the house plots for future development. Due to our extensive planning, we were able to complete the work for this San Antonio, Texas, subdivision in 90 days.

Stepan Chemical South Rail Spur

Harbour Contractors awarded Curran the earthwork and landscaping contract for the Stepan Chemical South Rail Spur project located in Elwood, Illinois. Our team completed topsoil excavation and respread, storm sewer work, 25,000 CY mass site excavation, placement of CA6 as a sub-ballast for the storage tracks, rock excavation, erosion control, and landscaping. This project required specialty rail training and extensive coordination efforts to safely perform work near live railroad tracks.

Algonquin Commons

Curran was awarded the parking lot pavement rehabilitation contract for the Algonquin Commons project at South Randall Road and Commons Drive. The work was performed in multiple phases and coordinated closely with the adjacent businesses to minimize interruptions to the customers. Our team removed the existing asphalt pavement, removal and stockpiling of the existing gravel base, soil stabilization efforts; crew then re-installed the gravel base, laid asphalt binder and new surface installation, striping and signage.

Weber Grill

Curran Contracting worked aggressively with the General Contractor, Keeley Construction, to complete the new Weber Grill Distribution Facility in Huntley, Illinois before winter conditions set it. The crew provided 20,000 tons of aggregate base and 25,000 tons of asphalt for a new 1,000,000 SF building industrial building.

Toastmaster Demolition

Curran was called upon to coordinate the demolition and remediation efforts for the former Toastmaster site in Algonquin, Illinois. We were able to safely remove the foundations and relocate the contaminated soil to an approved landfill.

Navy Military Housing Midwest Privatization Project

The Curran team was contracted to revitalize the military neighborhoods at the Naval Station Great Lakes, Fort Sheridan and Glenview Naval Bases. We completed the demolition of the existing roadways, including all roadways, utilities, asbestos abatement, contaminated soil removal and recycled the concrete for the reconstruction. Additional scope included building demolition, mass excavation, utility infrastructure removals, new utilities and subdivision roadway construction.

Wind Farm

After DeKalb County erected 119 wind turbines, they contracted Curran to repair the roadways leading to the massive wind energy project. We provided overlay and strengthened the rural low-volume roads with 42,000 tons of new asphalt pavement spanning 20 miles.

Chicago Executive Airport

Curran Contracting was able to demo four 1940’s hangar building at the Chicago Executive Airport to accommodate new concrete taxiways.

Long Grove Shopping Center

Curran Contracting transformed the Long Grove Archer parking lot into a drive-thru street and reconfigured the existing parking facility for this Historic Village.  The scope included specialty work such as bio-swale installations in the islands, brick pavers, granite banding along the walkways, decorative lighting, native plantings and more.

Hawley Road Reconstruction, Countryside Golf Course

The Mundelein Del Webb community contracted Curran to reconstruct and widen Hawley Road.  We removed the roadway, excavated 20 feet below grade, installed box culverts and storm sewers, placed the backfill and stone sub-base, and paved the roadway.  By installing box culverts and creating an underground tunnel, the golfers  from Countryside Golf Course could now safely pass under the roadway.

Atkinson Road

This exciting project in Grayslake, Illinois required Curran to reconstruct a road located in a saturated wetland where the conditions led to settling and deterioration.  Our crews replaced the base of the existing roadway with Styrofoam blocks (expanded polystyrene fill) that allowed the roadway to “float” over the marshland.  This float served as a bridge between the unsuitable soils and allowed us to backfill and repave the roadway with asphalt pavement.

8 mile Illinois Tollway Reconstruction-“Roadway Contractor of the Year”

The Illinois State Highway Authority tasked Curran with an eight-mile reconstruction project; our crews transformed a 4-lane Interstate I-90 stretch into a 6-lane modern expressway with a permanent concrete median barrier wall and new roadway lighting. Completed within two construction seasons, the scope included removing the existing pavement and road shoulders, earth excavation and grading, and the construction of three new lanes of concrete pavement in each direction. To make this project more sustainable, the existing asphalt and concrete pavement was salvaged and used for the new 6-lane interstate highway.

The Illinois Tollway awarded Curran Contracting “Roadway Contractor of the Year” for this project.

Kitty Hawk Road

We reconstructed and rehabilitated a main city thoroughfare. The project included excavation, stabilization, utilities and asphalt paving. We were able to complete the entrances for a highly congested shopping center with limited access and no disruptions in Universal, Texas.

FM 532

For this unique public project, Curran Contracting redeveloped a 13-mile rural farm road with pulverization, stabilization, installation of a flex-base and new asphalt paving.  Despite heavy traffic volume, we performed our construction operations safely and without closures or disruptions to drivers in Gonzales, Texas.

Borgfeld Drive

Curran crews reconstructed a county highway in San Antonio, Texas by installing box culverts, MSE walls, and completing excavation and asphalt paving scope of work.  We were able to reduce the overall job schedule for the owner after presenting alternate scheduling and staging options.
